The Israelites were in Egypt and were enslaved, being ut to work to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses. (Ex 1:11)
Moses was put into abaskect in the Nile River (Ex 2:3).
Moses fled to live in Midian (Ex 2:15).
Moses shepherded Jethros' sheep in "the far side of the wilderness" taking them to Horeb, "the mountain of God" (Ex 3:1). There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in the burning bush (Ex 3). God said that hHe had seen teh misery of His people in Egypt and had come to rescue them and bring them into a good and spacious land, a land of milk and honey - the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites (Ex 3:7-10, 19). God said that on their way out of Egypt the people would woship Him on that mountain (Ex 3:12).
On his way back, at a lodging place, the Lord tried to kill Moses (Ex 4:24-26)
Aaron met him at "the mountain of God" (Ex 4:27)
