Sato means village, and yama means hill or mountain. Satoyama contains mixed forests, rice paddy fields, farmland, grasslands, streams, ponds, and reservoirs. Find out what kind of animals live in satoyama through photos and videos sent in by Iiyama citizens, and learn about the nature of Northern Shinshu and its relationship with people through the animals living in the satoyama.

Selected from the collections of Shoinji Temple and the Hosokawa family, the exhibition will feature reproduced paintings and calligraphic works by Zen master Hakuin, reproduced using high-resolution scanning technology for the protection and utilization of cultural assets.
Travel back to the 1970s on Showa Day and experience the games, food and goods from the Showa era! Immerse yourself in the funky Showa-era atmosphere! Admission is free.

In conjunction with Children's Reading Day (April 23), the mobile library of the "Let's Play with Books” project run by Kodansha’s Storytelling Team will visit the Iiyama City Library. The mobile library is filled with fun picture books and will be open for tours and storytelling sessions. All are welcome!
