What does it mean to be a Tiger? From appearance to words on inclusivity - we walk you through it!
As a volunteer at IFFR, we consider you to be an official ambassador of the festival. Audience members, guests, partners, and press will look at you as a vital member of the festival crew. We aim to be as audience-friendly as we can, and thus we’d like you to host IFFR as you would host your own party: be kind, be welcoming, and be representative.
To give you an idea of what this entails, please consider the following:
Crew Badge
A purpose of the badge, is to serve as proof that you are part of our crew. When visitors notice you are wearing a badge, they might turn to you for questions or concerns. Therefore, we’d like you to make sure you have your badge with you during the entire festival and to wear it visibly during your shifts. It is also your ticket to the festival, since it had the tickets you ordered on it.
Crew T-shirt
At the start of the festival you will also receive an IFFR crew-shirt. We ask you to wear it as often as possible, so it is visible for our audience to whom they can turn with questions. Please do not wear your staff shirt while out and off-duty, as not to confuse visitors and staff about who is on shift and who is not. Some locations might be a little bit colder or warmer, so think of bringing a sweater, jacket or scarf if needed.
The IFFR crew shirt is designed and printed by our new partner Uniqlo. The 2026 T-shirt has a general design that might be used multiple years. You can still keep the T-shirt as a volunteer. This way, you can use it during the year, and if you return as a volunteer at IFFR 2027, you already have a T-shirt. If you don't wish to keep the T-shirt, because you're not going to wear it the rest of the year for example, you can return it at the Information Desk of De Doelen. This way, we can recycle these T-shirts and use them next year as well.
Please help guests to the best of your abilities. Remember, you are the face of IFFR! People will turn to you for help.
Of course we understand you don’t have an answer to everything (and we won’t ask you to either!), but we would like to ask you not to simply answer any questions with an “I'm sorry, I don’t know”. If you don't have the answer to a query, please involve your coordinator. They may be able to help or can confer with someone from the organization who can.
Find IFFR's Code of Conduct here.
IFFR is a meeting place for film enthusiasts from many different backgrounds as well as a platform for openness and respect. Therefore the creation of an environment that safeguards freedom of expression without any form of intimidation, discrimination, sexism, or other disrespectful behaviour is essential. If you don't feel comfortable in your team of the role you have in the festival, please reach out to Volunteers@IFFR.com and we'll try to find a better place for you.
Without the effort and involvement of all of IFFR volunteers, it wouldn’t be possible to organise an event of this scale. We’re looking forward to working together and are positive that the collaboration will be a successful one. In order to prevent any misunderstandings or other problems, we have come up with a set of house rules with regard to volunteering for the festival. Consider these the Ten Commandments for IFFR Volunteers.
For both your coordinator and your colleagues it is very disheartening to start a shift shorthanded. Please be on time. Running late? Let your coordinator know so they can anticipate any problems;
As a volunteer you represent the festival; treat our guests, audience and crew with all the kindness they deserve;
During the festival your coordinator will tell you what is expected from you during your shift. Listen to them carefully and follow their advice;
Make sure you look representative and dress appropriately. Please avoid clothing which might be offending or intimidating to others, or just too cold for the time of the year;
You are responsible for your work as well as the image of the festival. Make sure you’re sober during your shifts;
Garbage cans are for garbage and cleaning cloths for cleaning: take care of the festival locations as if they were your own;
Everyone has their qualities and their flaws. Take this into account and treat each other with the utmost respect. We don’t all have to be best friends, but let’s be polite;
Try to participate in as many volunteer events as possible, and get to know your fellow volunteers. Get involved in activities throughout the festival and watch as many films as you possibly can.
Laugh, cry, work and enjoy the festival together;
It can be hard work sometimes, but IFFR is meant to be loads of fun as well! So work hard, play hard. Before you know it, you’ll be back home wishing it were IFFR 2027 already!
