In psychology, there are different ways that variables can be measured and psychologists typically group measurements into one of four scales: nominal, ordinal, interval or ratio.
Nominal = categories.
Ordinal = can be ranked from highest to lowest, or put in an order.
Interval = the distance between the units of measurement are equal, for example time, length, etc but there is no true zero
Ratio = same as interval but has a true 0 e.g. time)
