Week one baby! I created some different character concept art this week for the robot delivery boy! since none of us really animate or rig, I wanted to keep the design a bit simply in the bone structure so that it could be human IK, or some other auto rigging software. I'm liking how its coming so far, and I'm excited to make some orthos next week !
Further concepted different designed and went more in depth on one design in particular. Lots of thoughts regarding variation (different colors and/or hats) per player using the same model.
Nailed down a final design for the player and drew some orthos as a guide. I also started the 3D model in maya. Hope to have that done soon!
It was a slower week for me, i was home over the weekend and without a computer. used mixamo to make a quick test rig and see if the character model would work without extra geometry on the knees and elbows, and lucky for me it does! I also messed around with different hand ideas other than the wrench, but nothing is as cute... Hope to finish the model next week!
A big back of house week for the character model. I finished up the model itself, got everything uved, and made a test rig to bring into unity. Still need to weight paint and texture everything though, but that's for next week.
Weight painted the model and brought it into unity, however the weights broke and did not carry over through the import. The whole model is very droopy :( Made 5 texture sets for the robot in substance painter and got them set up in unity. Also created a basic particle system for the grapple points that Walter is going to touch up. Oh I also modelled some other hats (top hat and cowboy hat) for the other robots.
Weight painting again, and again, and again. Im having so many issues. Weight painted for 7 hours, making sure it was perfect and dealing with issues ony to lose it on import. I dont know why. have an old usable rig which i am going to touch up and use instad, tho some of the geometry on the robot is differernt. Will need to retexture next week. I think that will atleast be good the textures could use a big upgrade.
Things are much better!! I made have working rig and the weights aren't terrible! I also went through and completely re-worked the character textures. I have a red, blue and green variant, each equipped with a custom hat displaying the logo for the company they work for. We also ditched the colored stomach idea so the textures themselves are way more cohesive. i also added some emission to the character in places to make it pop. Overall, really happy with this update, I think the robot fits in the world much better now. Oh! I also started grabbing Maximo animations to use in the character controller next week! Got everything in engine and set up as well.
We are approaching the end! My tasks this week were all over the place! Walter and I worked together to set up the character controller using mechanism in unity. I learned a lot from this process :) I also worked on adding the charcater to some UI screens and setting pup the scorebaord screen players will see at the end. I did a good bit of set dressing as well with the billboards around the city. Infact, I placed 247 of them. I hid a drawing of a cat I did on a few as well if you can spot it!
Last week! Last Push! What a term it has been and Im so happy with the work I have done for this game, and for all the effort put in by everyone. I think it came out really great. one of my tasks this week was to create a new delivery bag model that the player would pick up and throw. To accompany that I modeled and textured a backpack of sorts, which is heavily inspired by a gyroscopic food container. I made 4 different textures for the food bag, one for each restraunt. I then made four texture variations for the backpack, one for each robot color, and then a golden one for when the player has a golden delivery picked up. After that I went in and continued set dressing with Alex's new models (tree, bench, trashcan, lamp). I also created a yellow and purple texture variation of the robot to populate the scene with. Youll find these robots in the food trucks, and in the cranes around the city. This week has ended with massive documentation updates.
