General Policy
This Health and Safety Policy contains a plan detailing how we manage our Health & Safety issues. The policy sets out our commitment to manage risks and provide good standards of health and safety and also to meet our legal obligations. Health and Safety is an integral part of how we do business as a responsible employer and we have put in place the necessary organisation and arrangements to achieve this.
Statement of Intent
This is a declaration of our intent to provide and maintain, so far as reasonably practicable, a safe and healthy working environment and to enlist the support of our employees towards achieving these goals. The policy statement is brought to the attention of all employees by publication in the main policy manual, circulated to staff on an annual basis and in the Employee Safety Handbook. It is also displayed on the Health and Safety notice board.
Organisation
The organisation section of the policy details the health, safety and responsibility of everyone in the organisation from the Director to the employees. These responsibilities are fulfilled by completion of various safety records, templates and records in relation to on-going maintenance activities, training, accident reporting, and investigation.
Safety Arrangements
This part of the policy explains the system and procedures in place for managing individual topics of subjects for which our business is responsible.
As Directors of the Highway Data Systems Ltd, we are accountable for Highway Data Systems’ Health and Safety performance. We have overall responsibility to ensure that the company has complete comprehensive arrangements for Health, Safety and Welfare issues.
We expect all managers to give similar importance to these issues in their operational area and when determining priorities, plans and resource allocation. We also recognise the valuable role played by Health and Safety personnel.
The Health and Safety Policy statement is to be observed by staff throughout the company. It reflects the importance we attach to the health, safety and welfare of all staff and others, who may be affected by our activities.
We are committed to promoting the highest standards of health and safety in our workplace in order to prevent injury and ill health. We will ensure arrangements are in place within the company to deliver the following:
Objectives
The company will aim to meet all current and proposed legal requirements made under the Health and Safety at Work Act etc. 1974, together with any other health and safety policy commitments that apply. This will be achieved through effective risk assessments and the implementation of appropriate measures for the prevention or control of risks. Highway Data Systems will annually set and review health and safety objectives, based on identified significant risks. Highway Data Systems will promote continual improvement in health and safety performance and will provide regular feedback on its progress. Objectives are set further in the policy.
Systems
Highway Data Systems will put systems in place and procedures designed to ensure a safe system of work. As far as reasonably practicable, all equipment, plant, premises and work practices will be safe and free from hazards to health. We will do our utmost to ensure that employees, the public and others affected by our operations are not exposed to undue risk.
Communication/Co-operation
The policy will be brought to the attention of all staff and contractors. Legally all staff must co-operate in establishing and maintaining safe and healthy working conditions and avoid any actions that may adversely affect their health, safety and welfare or that of colleagues, contractors or visitors. Consultation on Highway Data Systems’ health and safety issues will be undertaken by management and health and safety personnel.
Monitoring and Auditing
Highway Data Systems will monitor and audit the health and safety management systems and performance and provide feedback on health and safety reflecting our progress, forward plans and innovative initiatives.
Review
The policy will be reviewed continuously in order to ensure its relevance and appropriateness to the organisation. A formal review will be carried out by the Director and the Health and Safety Personnel annually. The policy will also be reassessed immediately in the event of any major change in health and safety legislation or change in our organisation.
This policy will be implemented by management throughout the company. Roles and responsibilities will be clearly defined to ensure effective communication, provision of information, training and systems for reporting to those with delegated responsibilities.
