The G2 Stage is the second and final stage of the graduated licensing system that you enter once you complete the G1 Stage
This stage generally lasts 12 months. If you complete this stage successfully, with the advanced exit-stage road test, you will get a full G class license.
Many of the G1 restrictions are removed for the G2 stage, though there are still some restrictions.
In addition to obeying the rules of the road like all other drivers, G2 drivers must:
G2 Drivers can drive alone or with any number of passengers provided that they:
only drive when they have a "zero" blood alcohol level – without exception.
Ensure all passengers wear a seatbelt and that the number of passengers does not exceed the amount of seatbelts available.
if driving between the hours of midnight and 5:00 a.m and the G2 driver is under the age of 20:
In the first six months of their G2 license, they can only have one passenger under the age of 19
In the next (and final) six months of their G2 license, they can have a maximum of three passengers under the age of 19
The passenger restrictions between midnight and 5am do not apply if any one of these conditions is met:
The G2 driver is accompanied by a fully licensed driver in the front passenger seat
The passengers are members of your immediate family (a parent/guardian or those related to you by blood, marriage, common-law relationships, or adoption)
If you are convicted of breaking the graduated licensing rules, the consequences are serious: on your first conviction, your licence will be suspended for 30 days; on your second, it will be suspended for 90 days; and, on your third conviction, you will lose your novice licence altogether. If you lose your licence, you’ll have to start over, retake all the tests, and pay another round of fees.
