The Driver's Ed handbook will prepare you for driving, giving you the theory, along with driver's ed, which provides practical experience. Both together will ensure you do well.
The ideal option is buying a copy of the book. It is approximately 230 pages long, though it is the third the size (cover dimension: length) of a normal book. Inside includes basic information for G1 and G2.
Read the book as a start, to prepare yourself for driver's ed training and license obtainment.
The book costs $14.95 on the official Ontario government website, though you can likely get it for cheaper through a third party vendor like Amazon. If you must, buy a used book (in reasonable condition).
Here are links to other license handbooks by the Ministry of Transportation(MTO), such as motorcycle and truck licenses.
NOTE: You can only get other licenses AFTER you complete your G Class license.
If you don't want to pay the cost of buying an MTO Driver's Handbook, you're in luck! If you have a Toronto Public Library library card, you can borrow the book for free, two weeks at a time. The button below is a link for online holds (you must pick up the book at the actual library, physically).
You can also go to your local library and look for the Ontario MTO Driver's Ed Handbook, or ask the receptionist. Be sure to get the most recent one!
If you don't want to pay the cost of buying an MTO Driver's Handbook, and want an online copy you can access, here it is! The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), which wrote this book, also has a link to an interactive online pdf of the book with a table of contents and everything.
However, the downside of this is that it's on a screen, there are too many pages to print, and harder to understand than a paper copy. My recommendation is use this option as a last resort, only if the other two options don't work for you.
