Description: The Amazon covers eight countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana. It contains around 6598 kilometres of rivers, and has 1.4 billion acres of forests, which is half of Earth's remaining rainforest. The Amazon's forests are a big asset in our battle against Climate Change.
Human activity and settlements are a big threat to the Amazon. Roads create Habitat fragmentation, which kills the animals living in the Amazon. Without the animals to disperse the seeds, the plants die as well. Dams can also create habitat fragmentation which can block the range of many river species.
Climate Change is another threat to the Amazon. Warmer temperatures prevent rain from coming, which bring droughts. The dry soil can also lead to forest fires.
