Climate Change is the way our climate and environments change and disrupts important ecosystems. Climate Change takes many forms. It warms our water and land. It’s like a cycle. We pollute the air, that melts ice, it gets warmer because there is less white colour to reflect back sunlight. And as the ice melts, it raises sea levels, which can flood cities. It’s a negative cycle and it is burning fossil fuels that starts this chain reaction.
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and when they are cut down, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, warming it further. Some countries are on the verge of inventing bricks that can be used in construction, but can also hold carbon dioxide inside of them, preventing its release into the atmosphere. Some cities that get flooded are inventing pavement that can absorb rainwater. Also, scientists have invented some devices that can attract precipitation and make it rain faster. These are examples of technologies that are being invented to help with climate change, but we don’t know if these ideas will have unexpected impacts.
As the environment changes with the warmer weather, fewer animals and plants are able to thrive, especially if they live far from the equator. Some animals like polar bears who live far up north, face extreme change. And some animals face extinction because of climate change. Even plants face extinction because of changing weather patterns. Climate change is real and is happening all across our home, planet Earth.
But you can do lots of things to save the environment and stop climate change, including using more sustainable transportation like biking or walking.
