Before your dog is home, make sure you have everything they need, such as toys, food and water bowls, food, bed(s), pen(s) and crate(s). Also choose a vet that is good and is nearby. If anything goes wrong, do not try solving the problem by yourself. Take your dog to the vet immediately. Your dog will also need to get their vaccinations. Do not let your dog play in dog parks unless they are up to date on their vaccinations. Also, dogs need to be fixed, unless you are a breeder and want your dog to breed. Depending on their size you will do it at different times. The bigger the dog the later you fix them. Ask your vet if you are unsure of when to fix them.
