Nature must have shared its secrets with the Amur Leopard, because it is currently featured on the front page!Status: Critically Endangered
Population: 84
Habitat: Temperate Forests in Russian Far East
Description: Amur leopards are a rare subspecies of leopard that have adapted to live in temperate forests. It has been reported that some males stay with the females after breeding and may even help raise the cubs. Amur leopards are critically endangered, with only 84 Amur leopards left. They live for 10-15 years in the wild.
The biggest threat to the Amur leopard is poaching and illegal wildlife trade. Poachers kill Amur leopards for their beautiful fur and sell it on the black market.
Another threat to them is loss of prey. Forests are being cut down, and the Amur leopard's prey dies, as well as the Amur leopard.
Amur leopards matter because they help keep prey populations in check. When deer thrive, Amur leopards thrive. When deer die, Amur leopards die.
You can help by joining or participating in an organization that helps Amur leopards or donating money. You can also make a poster and spread the word that amur leopards are in danger. These big cats are in critical danger. #SaveAmurLeopards!
