Brief Project Summary:
This device is in development to be a simple accommodation for building good study habits. The idea behind this device is to counteract the impulsivity by providing a reminder for the student that they were supposed to be doing a certain task. The main design of the device is to rely on motion sensors to detect when a student gets up from a predesignated study area. This then pushes a notification to the student's phone from the main module to gently remind them that they were performing a specific task. This reminder can be all the student needs to return to the task, or the student can pause the study task for a certain amount of time so that they can finish their side task and return to studying in the study area.
Background:
Many students suffer due to being easily distracted by their environment. While many students combat this by moving themselves to a different environment and thus diverting their hyperactivity to monitoring the area around them while still being stationary enough to study at the same time, this has proven incredibly hard due to the pandemic. New spaces are fewer and farther in between, and that is only if there is good weather.
The challenge in this case then becomes "how to best optimize the space available to be compatible with students." Thus the idea for a movable device which detects when a student leaves the study space was born. There are two motion sensors that can be put behind the student and would detect when a student gets up from their desk. This information is then sent to the main processing module which sends a push notification to the student's phone.

Proof of Concept:
To demonstrate how many times a student may leverage the functionality of this device, proof of concept may be obtained by leveraging the standard Pomodoro technique versus leveraging this device and tracking how many times students leave their desk versus stay at their desk.
