This is a just in case Open Source Project. NASA went through multiple series of layoffs in early 2025. Concerned citizens and defense contractors in the field who work on satellites have determined that due diligence may need to bridge the gap during lapses in funding for these institutions and to ensure that the geostationary belt is protected.
"Asteroid 99942, also known as Apophis, will make a close approach to Earth on April 13, 2029, coming within 31,860 kilometers of Earth, which falls within the geostationary belt" (Andrade, J. 2024).
