Congress is a debate event that simulates real-life politicians in Washington D.C. It combines the best parts of public speaking and relevant politics into a debate with many other competitors on whether to "pass" or "fail" a piece of legislation.
We debate many new topics each tournament, ranging from selling Saudi Arabia weapons to the coronavirus pandemic to Biden's new policies.
We are different from other debate events because Congress is just as much about public speaking skills as it is about debate. Persuasive rhetoric is just as important in Congress as argumentation.
Not only do you learn the fundamentals of debate, but you also acquire public speaking skills that help you throughout the rest of your life.
Join Congress to further the discussion on some of the most important issues of our generation! Check out our page right here or email Katie to join.
BQ is a debate event which allows students to compete 1 v. 1, 2 v. 2, or 2 v. 1. Topics in this event intersect with science, philosophy, and religion. Students present cases, engage in rebuttal and refutation, and participate in a question period. The Big Questions topic remains the same throughout the year, which is unique to the other debate events!
