Derby Instructions

Cub Scouts should bring a fishing pole.

All attending should also come prepared with a water bottle, snack, sun and bug protection.

Cub Scouts should wear their Class A uniforms to this District event. Scouts who do not have a uniform may wear their Class B Pack t-shirt with rank cap.

Registration for the Fishing Derby will begin at 2:00 PM. Opening Ceremony, brief instruction, and a group picture will precede the start of the Fishing Derby.

No Fishing before the start of the Derby, unless you are participating in the Fishing Basics Clinic!

After on-site registration, there will be an Opening Flag Ceremony and a Group Picture (to thank our sponsors).

Cub Scout families will be given a short time to find a location and prepare their gear.

The Fishing Derby will begin with a Whistle Blast.

No Casting Before the Whistle Blast! A Scout is Honest!

Winners of the First Fish Prize for Each Rank will be determined by the first in each rank to submit a picture of the Cub Scout with catch along with Name, Pack Number, and Rank. One Prize Per Rank.

  • Take Picture of Cub Scout & Catch

  • Text Picture to Cindy Barckholtz @ 703-424-0421

  • Include Text with Scout Full Name, Rank, and Cub Scout Pack Number

  • IMPORTANT: Immediately walk with Cub Scout and phone to registration table to see if you have won. Sending and Receiving text messages at Round Valley may not be reliable. We will use time stamp on photo to help determine first fish winners.

Submission for Best Catch: (One Prize Overall) - Follow the Same Instructions as Above if You:

  • Hooked a Really Big Sunfish

  • Caught a Different Type of Fish

  • Reeled in Something that Made you Smile
