Safe Berks

Monthly Meal Project

Safe Berks provides a safe haven and an ongoing support system for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Part of that support includes providing an evening meal every day of the week for those victims who are staying at Safe Berks. Once a month, Hackaway at Hunger and Poverty provides a meal for these residents. The total number served was 35-45 people each time.

Hackaway has had volunteers prepare and donate meals to Safe Berks. We have provided wraps and salads, and we celebrated Christmas in July with turkey and ham, along with presents for the kids living there.

Hackaway also partnered with Berks Connections/Pretrial Services to sponsor an incredible fried chicken dinner from Beckett’s Chicken and Ribs.

We are looking for volunteers to help with this important project. Here are ways to participate:

    • provide meals or help prepare meals

    • donate restaurant gift cards from local restaurants

    • purchase meals from local restaurants
