Since it's inception in 2011, Hack Away at Hunger and Poverty has been dedicated to fighting hunger and food insecurity. Currently, about 10% of the Berks County population is food insecure. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for food and personal hygiene products from our local pantries has greatly increased. The majority of Hack Away's donations benefit the Exeter Area Food Pantry, but we also support other food pantries in the area including Preston's Pantry (The Boyertown Area Multi-Service), Helping Harvest, The Oley Valley Food Pantry, and others.
In 2020, Hack Away established a Toy Fund in response to the pandemic. A total of $5000 was donated to different agencies including $1,500 to the Schwarzwald Lutheran Exeter Toy Give and $1,500 to Exeter Shop with a Cop. Proceeds from the Silver Fox and Crazy 6 tournaments raise money for that fund.
