For Hack Away's September '24 Chip Away at Cancer golf tournament, we partnered with Thanx Hair Artistry, a local salon, to raise money for the Wig and Makeup Boutique at Thanx Hair Artistry.
Every day, thousands of women, men, and children are diagnosed with cancer and other life threatening diseases. Owner Diane Keck and the stylists at Thanx Hair Artistry donate their time and wigs to help them. The Thanx Wig and Makeup Boutique empowers these courageous individuals with a personal and private wig fitting. It allows them, for a brief moment, to forget about their fight.
Thanks to the field of 70 golfers and many generous sponsors, we were able to raise, $5300 for the Thanx Hair Artistry Wig Boutique in Exeter Twp., PA. A big THANK YOU to all of our golfers and sponsors for your generosity and support.
Shown here is Hackaway President, Tom Koch, presenting the check to Thanx owner Diane Keck and stylist Lilly Shunk.
Doris Jaeger from Schwarzwald Lutheran Church give this thanks to Hack Away: "On behalf of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, thank you so much for supporting our Annual Toy Give for the Children of the Exeter Area Food Pantry.

Schwarzwald could not achieve this goal without support of our generous community!"

During the month of November, Hack Away at Hunger and Poverty put out a challenge to the supporters of the Exeter Area Food Pantry – If they raised $8000, Hack Away at Hunger would match it.
The Exeter Area Food Pantry was able to raise $8,655 during our November challenge, and Hack Away used the proceeds from our October Jack O’Lantern Classic golf tournament to match the funds.
We would like to once again thank all of our golfers, sponsors, and volunteers that helped us in supporting our neighbors.
We wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season.

We had a beautiful fall day for our Jack O'Lantern Classic golf tournament. The course was festively decorated, and some of our golfers and helpers were in costume for the occasion. I think everyone had fun in this event. We would like to give a very big thank you to all of our golfers and sponsors that helped us to raise $8200 to help local food pantries. It is our hope that we will be able to double that amount this November. We are going to have a 1-to-1 match with donations to the Exeter Food Pantry. We hope to be able to offer it to other food pantries in the future but want to start small our first year.
Our special thanks to Mrs. Anne DeRupa Thomas and her students at Exeter HS for preparing a fabulous meal for the residents of SafeBerks! We are grateful for your part in our monthly Safe Berks Meal Program.

Congratulations to Rob Johnson and Sue Yoder who both led the field with net 53! Rob won the tie breaker on a match of cards. Including prizes that were donated back, this tournament raised about $240 for the Hackaway Toy Fund, which provides children and families in need some help at the holidays.

Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to ease food insecurity.
Many have seen this quote I took from FACEBOOK in December 2023 concerning the Exeter Food Pantry but we share it again because it demonstrates the importance of food pantries and the support our tournament provides them.
“I want to thank everyone who volunteered today in the food pantry. I was parked in the parking lot debating if I should go because I was embarrassed. We are a family of 5 with 2 working adults working 3 jobs trying to make ends meet. Today we ate a healthy dinner and dessert thanks to all of you! I’m so grateful that I put my pride aside and went. Thanks again for all of you that participated! Merry Christmas!”
Thank you to the golfers and sponsors that helped raise over $2300 for Hackaway at Hunger and Poverty projects. The golfers played in a 4-person scramble on the simulators at Swing Evolutions in an effort to beat the scores of the pros plaing at The Masters.
We are so excited to share another great partnership to deliver our monthly meals to the residents of SafeBerks! Thank you to the Exeter HS students in the Food & Nutrition, Sports Nutrition, and Life 101 classes for sharing your culinary talents!
#goeagles 🦅💙
On days when they cook for schoolwork, Senior High students in Food & Nutrition, Sports Nutrition and Life 101 classes usually eat their own culinary creations. But today, students worked with extra care and attention to prepare meals they will never taste: By the end of today, six classes will have spent the day preparing a dinner of 12 pounds of garlic parmesan pasta with chicken and vegetables; four large garden salads with homemade ranch dressing; and blueberry, cherry and apple sheet cakes to give to those who are sheltered by Safe Berks, an organization that provides emergency housing and services to women and children affected by domestic violence or sexual assault.
When Mrs. Preston introduced the idea to her classes, she said she could feel a shift in the room where everyone was fully paying attention to the assignment. "They were really taken aback by the purpose of the organization. They understood the gravity of the assignment and the power behind a good meal for people in need." The recipes they selected are a normal part of their curriculum and something they could easily scale up and transport to feed approximately 60 people at Safe Berks--a number that shocked many of the students. "I think they were surprised that there was an organization this big in Berks County to work specifically with victims of domestic and sexual abuse," said Mrs. Preston. "I think there was a realization among the students that they don't know everyone's story."
Typically, the Food and Consumer Science Department does not have the funds to purchase the ingredients to cook a meal of this magnitude, but thanks to a local philanthropic couple's donation of the ingredients and an offer to transport the meal from the high school to the shelter, the department was able make the project work. "If we had the funds for it, our department would love the opportunity to do this once a semester," said Mrs. Anne Thomas. "It's been a rewarding experience for everyone and gives us an opportunity for our students to help those who are less fortunate than themselves." #goeagles 🦅💙
There was 6" of snow on the ground, but indoor golf was going strong. On February 13-15th, 14 golfers played the Denver, CO area course Bear Dance in the 3rd event of the Silver Fox Grand Slam on the simulator at Swing Evolutions. In total, this event raised $430 for Hackaway at Hunger and Poverty. The proceeds will go towards the Hackaway Toy Fund, Family Fund, and/or to support local food banks. Our next indoor Silver Fox event will be Tuesday, March 5th. If you would like to participate, contact Charlie at Swing Evolutions or Greg Galtere.
Boyertown High School students and fans collected donations from spectators at the January 17th boys wrestling meet vs. Methacton and again at the January 30th boys basketball game vs. Norristown. We thank the Boyertown Athletic Department for their support, and we thank the students and fans for helping their community.
