14th Annual Hack Away at Hunger Golf Tournament
We are pleased to share that our 14th annual Hackaway at Hunger golf tournament raised $22,500 for local food pantries and food programs. We would like to extend a big Thank You to all of our participants, volunteers, and sponsors. A breakdown of the distributions is shown here. These contributions will go far to help families put food on the table and not have to choose between that and other expenses.
We hope you will be able to join us again next year. In the meantime, we have some upcoming golf events that will further help our causes:
Birdiefest – August 25 - Two Person Scramble with a twist (morning Starting Times)
Chip Away at Cancer – Sept. 28 – Scramble (morning Starting Times)
Jack O’Lantern Classic – Oct. 20 – Trick or Treat Scramble (9:30 Shotgun Start)

14th Annual Hackaway at Hunger Golf Tournament
Our 14th Annual Hackaway at Hunger Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, July 12th at Reading Country Club. We are pleased to share with you that Doubletree has agreed to be the title sponsor of the event. Our flagship event is our largest fundraiser of the year, and last year, thanks to our sponsors and participants, we raised $25,000 for local food pantries.
Many have seen this quote I took from FACEBOOK in December 2023 concerning the Exeter Food Pantry but we share it again because it demonstrates the importance of food pantries and the support our tournament provides them.
“I want to thank everyone who volunteered today in the food pantry. I was parked in the parking lot debating if I should go because I was embarrassed. We are a family of 5 with 2 working adults working 3 jobs trying to make ends meet. Today we ate a healthy dinner and dessert thanks to all of you! I’m so grateful that I put my pride aside and went. Thanks again for all of you that participated! Merry Christmas!”
13th Annual Hackaway at Hunger Golf Tournament
After being postponed due to the extreme flash flood event at Reading Country Club on July 9th, the 13th annual Hackaway at Hunger Golf Tournament is in the books. We would like to thank everyone that was involved. Because of your generosity, we are able to give local food pantries $25,000. This contribution will go far to help families put food on the table and not have to choose between that and other expenses.
As we have shared, it is a very difficult time for food pantries. The combination of an increased need in the community and fewer resources available to Helping Harvest is the reason for these difficulties. For that reason, we have decided that Helping Harvest will be the beneficiary for the Jack O’Lantern Classic to be held on October 22, 2023. Feel free to contact us for more information.
These food pantries received the following contributions:
Exeter Area Food Pantry - $11,800

Keystone Military Families - $1,000

Food insecurity is still very high, and our efforts to support local food banks continue to be even more important. Last year, this event raised, $19,000 which benefitted 15 local food banks. We are hoping to have another successful event this year.
This year's event is being sponsored by Reading DoubleTree Hotel.
