Notifications: Information will be provided to parents/guardians/emergency contacts. This information will be sent by text/phone call when evacuation is occurring if possible. Children will be evacuated to Glen Gindling’s home @ 179 Letsch Rd. (across the street from Gummy Bears' Daycare & Learning Center.) If parents are unable to reach me by phone they can call Glen Gindling at 319-939-3203 (cell phone) or 319-236-6103 (landline). In cases of emergency where 179 Letsch Rd. is not a viable evacuation site (such as in case of flood or tornado), children will be evacuated to my brother’s home (Kraig Gindling) at 2971 Cedar Terrace Dr., Waterloo. Emergency contact information for each daycare family is located in Provider’s Cell phone, in the daycare office, in provider’s vehicle, and in the Emergency Supplies Kit Rollaway Suitcase in the garage.
Delay in reuniting children with parents or authorized emergency contact: Children will remain in the care of provider until parents, guardians, or emergency contacts can arrive. DHS Compliance staff person will be notified via telephone or email whenever possible about the situation.
Release: Children will be released only to parents, guardians, or other pre-designated emergency contacts via a sign-out with signature noting date & time of release. Provider may ask for photo ID.
Evacuation routes/exits: There are two (2) direct exits from my childcare home. One is the front door, the other is the back sliding door that exits off the deck. Egress windows will be used on the lower level if the upper level is impassable.
Evacuating infants/toddlers and others (children and staff) with limited mobility, special needs or chronic medical needs: Emergency supply kit with emergency medications, supplies for each child, (i.e. diapers, formula, medical equipment, water & first aid supplies will be in the rollaway red suitcase in the garage that can be taken along.
Emergency records/supply kits: Emergency Contact Information for all daycare children is stored in the Red Rollaway Suitcase located in the garage. Go-kit is also located in the red rollaway suitcase. Emergency records & contact numbers are also located in provider’s cell phone and vehicle.
Notifications: Provider will decide if/when emergency evacuation is necessary and will follow advice from local EMS personnel. EMS/Fire/Police will be notified by phone as necessary. Parents/Guardians/Emergency Contacts will be notified by text or phone call when evacuation is occurring as is possible. DHS Child Care Compliance person and KWWL may also be notified if situation warrants and/or parents/guardians/emergency contacts are unreachable.
Evacuation sites: My father’s house (yellow ranch style) is across the street from Gummy Bears’ Daycare & Learning Center. The address is 179 Letsch Rd., Waterloo. Glen’s phone number is 319-939-3203 (cell) & 319-236-6103 (land line). We will only go there when there is an emergency or we need to evacuate my child care home. If for some reason Glen’s house is not a viable option, we will evacuate to my brother’s home (Kraig Gindling) at 2971 Cedar Terrace in Waterloo. His phone number is 319-230-7895 (cell).
Transportation to evacuation locations: We can walk to the evacuation site across the street at my father’s house (179 Letsch Rd.). I have a large double stroller, wagon, and wearable baby carrier, and a rope hand-band system. If evacuation is necessary, I would follow guidance from any EMS personnel that may be helping with the emergency situation. If evacuation to our secondary site (my brother’s house at 2971 Cedar Terrace) is necessary, I would try to use my father’s van to transport. It has room for at least 5 car/infant seats. However, if emergency evacuation is absolutely necessary, I will do whatever is required to evacuate the daycare children to a safe site, regardless of carseat or van availability.
Location: We will use either the downstairs bathroom or closet under the stairwell (depending on how many children are at daycare) in case of tornado.
Evacuating infants/ toddlers and others (children and staff) with limited mobility, special needs or chronic medical needs: Provider will carry all non-mobile children down the stairs. Older, mobile children may use the slide on the lower-level stairway to reach the basement sooner. We have a first-aid kit and child supplies, extra diapers, & formula in the downstairs bathroom.
Emergency records/supply kits: Supply kits are located both in the basement closet and in the red rollaway suitcase in the garage. Copies of emergency records and contact information for all daycare children are located in the red rollaway suitcase in the emergency supply kit in the basement, in the provider’s vehicle, and in the provider’s cell phone. The red rollaway suitcase and emergency supply kit contain supplies to keep children occupied and to meet basic health and nutrition needs in the basement or evacuation site for up to 24 hours.
Notifications: Parents will be notified ASAP via text message and/or phone call. Gummy Bears’ Daycare & Learning Center’s first priority is to keep all children safe and then to make contact with their families. There may be tower or power outages that do not let me communicate immediately with families, but every effort will be made to contact parents as soon as possible.
Location: Upstairs Master Bedroom or Downstairs Bathroom depending on situation and where children are located within my childcare home at the time, we will use one of these two options. Doors will be barricaded with furniture for further safety, and locked from the inside.
Evacuation routes/ exits: If we need to evacuate the childcare home, we will walk to our neighborhood location across the street at 179 Letsch Rd. (my dad’s house.) If so directed by EMS officials (for example, in case of bomb threat or gas leak), we will evacuate to 2871 Cedar Terrace, Waterloo (my brother’s house).
Evacuating infants/ toddlers and others (children and staff) with limited mobility, special needs or chronic medical needs: Provider will assist toddlers and infants to the evacuation site. I have a large double stroller, wagon, wearable baby carrier and a rope hand-band system.

If needed during power outage, we will walk or drive to off-site evacuation location: My father’s house across the street at 179 Letsch Rd., Ph. 319-939-3203 or my brother’s house at 3971 Cedar Terrace, whichever one has electricity. We will only go there if power is not restored and parents are unable to pick up children from daycare. Cyber Security and Back-Up Records: Provide information about your procedures for protecting electronic records as well as having back-up copies of records.
Protecting your computer hardware: I have anti-virus software that is set up to protect my computer hardware. I also have paper back-up copies of each child’s file.
Protecting your computer software: I have anti-virus software that protects against possible cyber-space breaches. I update it annually or as necessary.
If your computer is destroyed, critical documents are maintained and available: Daycare records are backed up to a secure online site through Minute Menu Kids. Copies of childcare records are scanned to a flash drive and kept in a fireproof box. I also keep a paper copy of each child’s daycare file both on-site and off-site in the Red Rollaway Suitcase.
Back-up records, including a copy of insurance policies, facility plans, bank account records and computer back-ups stored in a secure location (fire/water resistant safe): On-Site: Back-up records and copies of my insurance policies are kept in a fire-proof box as well as well as in a secure off-site location, and scanned copies are kept in a flash-drive in a fire-proof box. Copies of Emergency Records and Contact information for all daycare children are located in the Red Rollaway Suitcase, in the Emergency Supply Kit in the basement, in the Provider’s Vehicle, and in the Provider’s Cell Phone. Provider’s training documentation is now online and copies of policies, procedures and Emergency Plan as well as training documentation, can be found on my childcare website.
Providing continuity if accounting and payroll records are destroyed: GBDLC has no employees, so there is no payroll. Accounting, tuition, and attendance records are kept online through Minute Menu Kids, which can be accessed from an outside computer and is backed up securely online.
Continuity of Operations/Recovery: Planning for an emergency or disaster also includes thinking about what issues you may have and what resources you will need after an emergency or disaster. The goals of continuity of operations/recovery are to:
Rebuild you facility/building and restore services as quickly as possible;
Meet the needs (physical, health and emotional) of children, families and staff; and
Provide a supportive and caring environment that brings normalcy back into children’s lives
Reopening your facility: I do not have a plan to re-open my childcare home for business in the event that a natural disaster forces me to close. It is possible that I might relocate the business to 179 Letsch Rd., Waterloo, but that would have to be determined at a later date.
Alternate location for your program: Possibly 179 Letsch Rd., Waterloo, but that has yet to be determined at a future date.
Displaced families: I will work with CCR&R, DHS, EMS, Red Cross, and other local officials to support the needs of any of my displaced childcare families and provide them with information.
Communication systems: I will attempt to contact all of my families to check in about their status and needs. I will use text, phone, or email to contact CCR&R, DHS, and my daycare families about the status of GBDLC.
Share information about my Displaced staff: Not applicable
Support networks to cope with trauma: GBDLC will seek out community resources for daycare families that may experience trauma as a result of an emergency or natural disaster situation. To this end, referrals to CCR&R, Red Cross, local churches, and local child & trauma counselors will be offered to families.
