Applications
Basic soil moisture sensing, monitoring and automated irrigation
The GrowSense system is only developed to the monitoring level. This means that is can handle input from different types of sensors, process that input locally to produce responses, and share data over the internet to be presented via a user interface.
Guides
Guides specific to the irrigator device:
Air cleaning plant pots
The indoor landscaping industry uses self-watering pots (they have a water reservoir and a plant watering solution that uses capillarity). We build on this model.
High level design requirements
very low cost hardware
high mobility (can be placed almost anywhere in a physical space)
networking ability for multi-pot systems
Possible features
LED for supplement light
nutrient dispenser
air cleaning (using air circulation through the growing medium)
networked (mesh network between pots)
connected (to internet)
Sensors
soil moisture
water tank level
light sensor
Actuators
power switch if light supplement or/or nutrient dispenser are needed
fluid pump if nutrient dispenser is used
Automation hardware
microcontroller: Arduino nano (for prototyping)
communication: ??
Green Walls
A fully automated, connected and smart vertical plant growing system.
High level design requirements
medium cost hardware
medium mobility (can be movable or fixed)
networking ability for multi-green wall systems
Greenhouse
High level design requirements
higher cost hardware
