Monitor/Irrigator Reading Interval

The GrowSense monitor/irrigator devices are configured to take a reading (and act upon it) at a specified interval.

The more frequently the readings are taken the more the soil moisture sensor will corrode but the quicker you will see changes in sensor readings.

Choosing an Interval

Testing, Debugging or Demonstration

When testing, debugging or demonstrating a GrowSense device it can be useful to have a small interval (eg. 3 seconds) to changes to sensor readings quickly.

Live Systems

For real world use it is best to increase the interval (eg. 1 minute, 10 minutes, or an hour) because that is sufficient when soil dries slowly.

Setting the Reading Interval

Linear MQTT Dashboard

The Linear MQTT Dashboard user interface allows the reading interval to be set from a mobile device.

See the networking guide for information on how to set up the Linear MQTT Dashboard user interface.

Open up the Linear MQTT Dashboard application:

Select the tab that corresponds with the device you're configuring (eg. Monitor1 or Irrigator1):

Tap the arrow next to the label "Reading interval" and select the desired reading interval from the list:

The reading interval should change to show the new selection:

Note: There may be a delay after selecting a new option, before the device detects the change, and it gets reflected on the user interface.

Once the change is reflected on the user interface the device should be now configured with that new reading interval.
