Element 3A. Focus on Collaborative Work Environment The school executive understands and acts on the understanding of the positive role that a collaborative work environment can play in the school's culture
Ms. Tabron understands the importance of collaboratively working with staff to influence a positive school culture. She works collaboratively with the administrator, the instructional team, the teachers, and the staff in various capacities.
To help facilitate development of teacher capacity, she provides staff with weekly lesson planning feedback. As she sees a need, she addresses it with staff swiftly. She created a presentation with examples and videos of activating strategies for lesson plans. She then created a schedule of modeling and co-teaching opportunities for grade levels to support with higher yielding strategies. She also offers staff time to collaboratively plan within and outside of PLC time.
Element 3B. The school executive develops a shared vision, values, and goals to define the identity of culture of the school.
Ms. Tabron is keen on been building relationships with staff. In each role, she completes empathy interviews to get to know each staff member. She interviewed staff members face to face to learn about them and their vision. This helps build her understanding of the culture and climate of the school. She also checks in with staff members Mid-Year to assess how well the year is progressing and see what items may need to be addressed to meet the goals of the school.
Element 3C. Acknowledge Failures; Celebrates Accomplishments and Rewards The school executive acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture, and performance of the school.
Ms. Tabron is often celebrating the staff she works with. In previous role at Baskerville Elementary, she created a celebration system for celebrating positive things happening around the school. She created a Bright Bulldog award for staff. There is a nomination process that she created and an award to recognize staff for being positive and going above and beyond school-wide. She also created a system to acknowledge students and character through her commitment to PBIS. She developed a system of nominating students for displaying the PBIS Expectations.
She also previously developed a weekly staff award at DS Johnson. This was done to celebrate staff members who displayed a positive attitude and who makes positive choices that directly impacts the school environment. Staff were celebrated with a certificate, a post on social media, and a gift card purchased by the admin team! Additionally, Ms. Tabron hosted the 21-22 Awards Ceremony to celebrate students academic success during the third nine weeks of school.
3.D. Efficacy and Empowerment The school executive develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which influences the school’s identity, culture, and performance.
Ms. Tabron asks for staff input on decisions to help influence a positive school culture. She empowers staff by encouraging the School Improvement Team and Grade Chairs to meet and provide feedback. For example, she also asked the School Improvement Team members to gain feedback among the staff about hosting a fundraiser in collaboration with the local Chuck. E. Cheese. By asking for input, staff are empowered and help influence decision making in the school. The fundraiser was a success and profitable for the school.
