Element 4A. Professional Development and Learning Community The school executive ensures that the school is a professional learning community.
Ms. Tabron created a PLC Document to help track the discussions and conversations occurring during PLC. It also had given teachers the opportunity to take on ownership of PLC's. With roles everyone had a part of the preparation for PLC's and staff really enjoy it.
Element 4B. Recruiting, Hiring, and Mentoring Staff The school executive establishes processes and systems in order to ensure a high-quality, high-performing staff.
Ms. Tabron noticed a need for support for the Beginning Teachers at D.S. Johnson. She understands the importance of retaining staff in order to build a high-performing staff and school. Based on observational records, she worked to support and develop staff on Classroom Management through monthly BT sessions. You can find more about this under the Problem of Practice Tab where she completed research to help retain the teachers at the school with promising data results.
Element 4C. Teacher and Staff Evaluation The school executive evaluates teachers and other staff in a fair and equitable manner with the focus on improving performance and thus, student achievement.
Ms. Tabron uses the NCEES tool to evaluate teachers. She follows the schedule created to evaluate teaches in various cycles. She also created a informal tool based on the principals priorities for the year for instruction. Staff are observed and feedback is given through pre/post conferences, video recordings, and written form on Classroom Mosaic. This is to help increase teacher performance.
