Bhagavad Gita Chapter 5 Summary

Arjuna: Hey Krishna, now I have to give up work (karma tyaga) or work in devotion (nishkama karma) ?

Explanation: Arjuna wants to give up work, so he's asking a similar question again.

Krishna: Instead of giving up work, better is to work in devotion (Karma Yoga)

Explanation: Chap3 - Karma Yoga; Chap5 - Karma Sanyasa Yoga (Work without having any expectations about results, and work for pleasing Krsna)

A house holder can also be a sanyasi if he/she performs duties without desire/hate, without results. Ex: Ambarish M, Tukaram,..

Karma & Jnana Yoga both are the same, since the results are the same. Jnanis renounces work, analysis (sankya philosophy) eventually understands Krsna as root of everything. Then they also work to please Krishna. Karma yogi also works to please Krishna directly.

Work in devotion doesn't cause karma bandana, though they may work similar to karmi's (materialist)

Having this divine knowledge, if we work to please Krishna, though such a person sleeps, breathes, walks, works,.. is never bound by karma bandana just like a water drop remains unaffected even after falling on a lotus petals.

Explanation: A pure devotee, even though working like us, his/her consciousness is pure like a pure lotus that is grown in a muddy area.

Such people don't get attached to what they are doing. Explanation: We can remain detached in our work, when we are attached to krishna. Ex: A mother sacrifices everything for their children, selflessly without any expectations or desires.

Working for Krishna without expecting results & performing our duties (even in challenges) purifies our consciousness.

People work to have sense enjoyment, get bound by karma. But pure devotees have no desires, not bounded by pios or sinful acts.

By our intelligence, mind with great determination, without deviation, we should perform acts for krsnas pleasure. Then we will not be bound.

Learned one is one who has the divine knowledge, and is humble, who sees everyone equally on spiritual level.

Established on spiritual intelligence, they are unaffected by people, situations outside like pleasure, pain - why ? - because they are completely self satisfied internally, i.e., lasting joy.

Such people aren't engaged in temporary material pleasures.

Conclusion: The happiest person is one (pure devotee) who gives up all aspirations of joy and pain in this world, & gives up all angry, desires & in self satisfied with what he/she has & gets. They are always happy within themselves.

They perform activities for the benefit of everyone, preach to everyone, and help everyone to come out of the dualities of life.

Conclusion:  I am the real enjoyer, Supreme controller master & real well wisher of everyone. One who understands this gets the real peace & lasting happiness. Understand this and fight Arjun.
