How do you feel study and experience obtained in GIS valuable in terms of job hunting?
I was job hunting on an 'IT x English' axis.
I had always wanted to work in English before I enrolled in GIS, but it was the classes at GIS that made me realize that I wanted to explore a career involving IT. I learned that ICT education in Japan is lagging behind in comparison with other countries through the course 'Language education in the digital era', which I took during my sophomore year. This lesson made me reflect on my educational environment and realize how little contact I had with IT, and I wanted to have the opportunity to learn about it. I then obtained the entry-level national IT qualification, IT Passport, during the spring break of my sophomore year.
This experience support my decision to choose IT industry for my first career even I didn't have science and IT background until obtaining IT passport. I didn't expect GIS provides us with this much of diverse curriculum that connects to our future before entering GIS.
I highly appreciate the educational environment of GIS where encouraging each student to pursue their interests.
