Summer Reading Bucket List from NYT

Published in 2026: [How about published in the 2020's? That's pretty new for me ;)] Beyond the Wand - T. Felton

New Genre [this will be hard, as I read pretty much anything]: Learn to Play GUITAR for adult beginners.

NYT Best Book 21st Cent: Trust - H. Diaz (it was December of 2025 but it still counts, right? and it was an audiobook! So double points!)

Short/Long: Bad Dogs Have More Fun - J. Grogan

Classic: In Cold Blood - T. Capote

Summer: Swan Song - E. Hilderbrand

Translation: Persepolis - M. Satrapi [also on the NYT list for 21st Century]

Adapted for Screen: The Woman in Cabin 10 - R. Ware

Audiobook: Horse - G. Brooks

As usual, the book was worlds better than movie. Did they even read it first?!

New Genre

A new 8th hour idea for me means I learn how to play guitar this summer. We shall see.

I'm a sucker for an origin story and when combined with mythology and sale prices, I had to have this. Excellent read.

Short!

This collection was ok. Marley & Me was better. :/

Translation

With the death of Marjane Satrapi this summer, I instantly recognized this book and re-read it. What a childhood. What a totally different world she navigated.

Classic Meaning to Read

I've had this on the shelf as "something I *should read" and I know something about Harper Lee's involvement in the project. So here's my excuse!

Wow. Just wow.

Before we go to "Harry Potter: The Exhibition" seems appropriate to dive in! (and after In Cold Blood, I needed something light!)

Summer Read

Does it get more "summer read" than Elin Hilderbrand? Didn't think so. Having never read her but always seen about her, this was the perfect opportunity. Easy read.

Audiobooks

Horse

This was an amazing blend of past and present and even further past. Striking connections. Well done. And then I realized this is the same author as Year of Wonders that I have on the shelf!

Trust

Totally different premise - take the same events and tell them from three wildly different points of view leaving the reader to decide what's true. It took a minute to figure out and it was highly involved, but very well done.

Just Because

More Brooks. This time, Little Women from dad's pov. Not sure what I think.

HP & Cursed Child

Somehow I've never seen/read this story. Now I have!

Looking forward to finishing the summer with this one from a TBR list of mine.
