"For the first time in 20 years of teaching, I've been told I'll have actual Chromebooks in 2020-2021 school year."
When I wrote that statement I had no idea those Chromebooks would be in students hands because of a pandemic. COVID-19 brought an influx of technology to our district - more access points, 1:1 devices, equipment headaches, in-person & hybrid & virtual growing pains all at once. Every day something new appears that students on Chromebooks and teachers on Windows laptops have to troubleshoot and handle on the fly.
The greatest help I can offer is to have students help each other and struggle through it. They will learn more, remember the feeling success when they took that screenshot, used that shortcut, and changed the keyboard from International to American to make the apostrophe correct again when they do it for themselves. That doesn't mean we don't guide them, but we can safely admit once and for all that we - the teachers in the room - don't know it all. And that's ok.
