The Swiss Alps
Murren
Murren
Days 4, 5, 6
We arrived in Lauterbrunnen Valley late afternoon
and took the gondola to Murren. Any adjectives I use....
beautiful, amazing, breathtaking, spectacular, visually
stunning, do not adequately describe the surrounding
landscape.
Scott and I along with our fellow travelers, made our way
through the alpine village to our hotel. We had dinner
together, and retired to our room to dream about our next
days adventures.
The day started with another gondola up to the 10,000 foot
Schilthorn. Unfortunately the day was drizzly and cloud
cover prevailed. The rain and clouds did not deter us from
enjoying the Bond Museum and gift shop and the fact that
we were in the Swiss Alps. Some in our group waited it out,
and as the weather changes often, were treated to the view.
Scott and I decided to ride the gondola back to Murren,
where we met with some others in our group to hike the
North Face Trail. It turned out to be an excellent decision.
The following morning, we were back in Lauterbrunnen
Valley. We toured Trummelbach Falls. and did a valley hike
with our guide. Later in the afternoon, Scott and I hiked
from Murren down to Gimmelwald. Again it was drizzly
with visibility of only a few feet in front of us. To us, it was
enjoyable anyway! It was like walking in the clouds, quiet,
serene, enchanting, and mythical!
Before dinner together, we were treated to wine and
cheese, and entertainment by two musicians. One
gentleman played the accordion, the other an Alp Horn.
It was an excellent way to spend our last evening in Murren.
Although we had very little sunshine on our days in the
alps, it did not take away from the beauty or our enjoyment.
The weather can change quickly. So if it's raining, you can
count on it stopping. One morning upon waking, Scott and I
had a clear view of the glacier from our window. But it was
gone after a bathroom trip to brush my teeth only to appear
again by breakfast. Be flexible, dress in layers to be
prepared for any type of weather, and enjoy!

Dress in layers anticipating a change in weather. Have snacks and water with you on hiking excursions. We loved the local grocery. The Coop. They have a wide selection of ready made meals including salads, sandwiches and desserts. Scott and I bought food here a couple of times eating in our room once with the windows wide open enjoying the view, and another time in the common area of the hotel. If going through self checkout don't forget to choose English! We didn't know to do that on our first shopping trip and stumbled through the German prompts!!
