Days 9, 10
Upon arriving in Salzburg in the late afternoon and settling into our rooms, we regrouped and headed out for an orientation walk in the historic center to familiarize us with the area for time spent on our own. Then we dined in another well chosen restaurant. In the morning with our local guide, we strolled through picturesque Mirabell Gardens and marveled at the Salzburg Cathedral. In the afternoon, Scott and I wandered into the hills for a relaxing walk taking in the sites, and passing by the medieval fortress. There are many tours offered in Salzburg including "The Sound of Music" tour and Mozart's Residence. His birthplace is also here! He was born in the colorful house in the picture on the left. If you are a music lover, take in a concert or two during your stay. There are also a myriad of fine shopping selections.

Allison's Aha! Learn the real story of the Von Trapp family portrayed in "The Sound of Music." It's really quite different than the movie.
