Day 11
On the way to Lake Hallstatt, we had a surprise stop at a wonderful farm. This quaint dairy farm was located in a scenic valley in the Berchtesgaden region. The group was given a tour by a wonderful lady beautiful in appearance and personality. She was very passionate about the work they do on the farm, the products they produce and the way they live by respecting the land and the gifts it provides. After the refreshing farm visit and tasty samples of cheese and jams, we proceeded to Lake Hallstatt. This town is small, but it's attraction is big. Our stay there began with a boat tour around the pristine lake, including a good bit of local history. We then settled in our hotel, and had the afternoon free to explore. Swimming, boat rentals, and a tour of the salt mine were all options. Scott and I chose to take the funicular up and hike back down from the salt mine which is claimed to be the oldest in the world. We also made a thoughtful visit to the Catholic Church and Bone Chapel. Later that evening after a group dinner, we took another stroll around the village. Our hotel was simply wonderful as well.
