The Social Events Committee’s purpose is to bring Scholars together and build leadership skills through our planning processes. Currently, the committee is hosting virtual events to ensure the safety of our members. The responsibilities of Social Event subcommittees are divided by event, and three new additional planning subcommittees are soon to be implemented. With collaboration, communication, and creativity, Scholars host these events and develop professional skills along the way.
Our events range from educational workshops to game nights, all of which involve lifelong learning and unforgettable fun. Starting this semester, we plan to host both credit and non-credit events to encourage greater participation in our organization. Whether or not you join our committee, all are welcome to our events and we hope you have a great time with us!
Meets Every Other Wednesday at 12:30 - 1:00 PM
The Community Service Committee aims to connect Scholars on campus with the world around them. Through community service opportunities, students help their community and inspire others to do the same, contributing to a more compassionate and considerate world, one step at a time. Members will gain volunteer experience with various organizations, and support their local community in a multitude of ways. Members will also get an insight into the collaboration and communication that it takes to be active members of their community. By being exposed to an environment that tackles struggles in the community, Scholars will experience deep personal growth.
Meets Every Other Tuesday at 1:05 - 1:35 PM
The Fundraising Committee organizes and hosts fundraisers in order to help fund the program and allow members to interact with each other. The money generated funds scholarships for students at Glendale Community College, events hosted by the Program, and other organizations on campus. Fundraisers come with a social aspect which is fulfilled at times by joining zoom sessions. By planning fundraisers, members have an escape from everyday worries, and get to further enjoy what they have worked hard to put together. Tasks done in the sub-committees include making the flyers, finding different businesses, writing emails, making google forms, collecting receipts, and hosting. Along with that, the fundraisers promote and support local businesses. Some events hosted by the Fundraising Committee include fundraisers at Love You Latte, Rockbird, Moo Moo Mia, and the Scholars Carnival.

The Arts and Culture Committee promotes the creative aspect within the GCC community by organizing various activities and events to allow students to express themselves. Some ideas put forth by the committee include academic writing, photography, music, performances, and cultural representation. In addition to planning Arts and Culture events, committee members compile and organize these artistic works to publish in the Scholars Journal at the end of the year. Furthermore, at the end of every semester, the committee hosts The Scholies, which is the Scholars banquet. At this event, students have the opportunity to put forth any of their talents which may include singing, dancing, art, and much more. Therefore, the Arts and Culture Committee serves as a reminder to Scholars that college is not only about academics, but also about exploring personal talents and creativity.
Meets Every Other Friday at 12:30 - 1:00 PM
The main goal of the Outreach Committee is to connect with both prospective and current GCC students by providing accurate, up-to-date information about the Scholars Program and the opportunities it offers. With the help of the program director and the appointed Cabinet, the committee organizes and participates in events both on and off campus, including high school visits, campus tours, and tabling events. In addition, the committee is responsible for promoting the program on social media and on campus through announcements, flyers, videos, and more. The Outreach Committee, and Scholars as a whole, is built on the belief that collaboration among students leads to meaningful growth, lasting connections, and a stronger community for everyone.
