About

 Our Mission:

Since 1986, the Glendale Community College Scholars Program has provided students with advanced academics, offering them opportunities for intensive study. Scholars students excel in academic, community service, and social contexts.

Academic

Scholars is an Academic Program

Scholars students benefit by completing at least 15 units of rigorous Honors classes that satisfy general-education and pre-major requirements. The variety of courses offered lead students to become well-rounded and prepared for upper-division coursework and their future career endeavors. Students who complete the Program in good standing by satisfying academic and participatory requirements to the point of transfer are evaluated for certification by the Director and the Scholars Counselors. If eligible and certified, some Scholars may have enhanced consideration for admission at several partner colleges in California and nationwide. See a list of those partner colleges at the HTCC website: www.honorstransfercouncil.org/transfer-partners

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

— Nelson Mandela

Community

Scholars Is An Active Community-Service And Charity Organization

All year long, Scholars student committees donate time and effort to raise money and support various causes on campus and in the community. Last year, we hosted several fairs, events, and fundraisers in conjunction with campus and local organizations, such as organizing gift drives with local shelters, food pantries, and charity events.

"Community cannot for long feed on itself; it can only flourish with the coming of others from beyond, their unknown and undiscovered brothers."

— Howard Thurman

Social

Scholars Is A Dynamic, Supportive Social Club On Campus

In Scholars’ familial environment, students form connections and friendships that make their time at GCC highly meaningful and productive. Scholars’ student Cabinet meets with the Scholars Director, Dr. Harnett, on a weekly basis, and is composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Directors of Scholars Committees. Subcommittees within each Committee plan and run events and activities in which all Scholars are expected to participate actively, providing students with opportunities to bond among their fellow Scholars and have a wonderful college experience.

"The world is round so that friendship may encircle it."

— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
