As we approach the end of the school year, it's hard to believe our time is almost up! This week marks our final sessions of playing instruments in school. During the week of June 1st, I'll be reviewing instrument care and return procedures with all students to ensure they are well-informed about summer plans for their instruments. Here is some important information to help you prepare.
If your student did not initially sign up for band next year but would like to continue, please contact the counseling office to update their schedule. Many students realize how much progress they have made since submitting their course selection sheets and decide to stay in band. I would be thrilled to see all students continue their musical journey!

Students using their own instruments can bring them home after June 5th. We will be done playing in class by then and will be engaging in other activities until the end of the school year.
There are many activities taking place at EMS over the summer, so it is very important that all privately owned instruments are taken home before the summer break. We will finish playing in class after June 5th, and students can take their instruments home on or after that date. Please note that the school is not responsible for any instruments left at East Middle School over the summer break.
If your child is renting an instrument from Marshall Music and is signed up for band next year, I recommend continuing to rent the instrument over the summer. Returning the instrument would forfeit the money you have already invested. It is better to rent until the end of your contract, ensuring you own the instrument at the end. If you have any questions about the rent-to-own program through Marshall, please call them at 517-337-9700.
If your child is renting an instrument from Marshall Music and will not be continuing with band next year, you have a few options.
1. You can return the instrument to Marshall Music yourself.
2. Marshall Music will come to East Middle School to pick up instruments for return.
Please inform your student to fill out the Instrument Return Form provided by me. Instruments and completed forms need to be given to me before the end of the school year. I will collect any instrument with a completed form and place it in a designated area for Marshall Music pick-up. I will not collect any instrument without a completed form, and the student will need to take the instrument home at the end of the school year.
If you are renting from a different company, please contact them directly to inquire about their rental or return policy.
All school-owned instruments will be collected and sent to Marshall Music for professional cleaning and any necessary repairs. If your student is planning on participating in summer band, their school-owned instrument will be collected on the last day of summer band.
