Fallout 2307?

State of the Union

After the Great War, the United States of America disintegrated into a vast sea of empty and irradiated landscapes speckled with small rag-tag groups of survivors who either scavenged or raided others to survive. Within fifty years however, humans had built numerous small communities throughout the wasteland... usually only numbering in a dozen families or so... but this was enough spark the smoldering ruins of civilization. Now, in 2307, over two hundred years after the atomic fires, the former United States is home not only to small communities, but numerous city states, and even a few "proto" nation states.

Later histories may even record that 2307 was a turning point, where interminable conflict between states and principalities; after a short absence, were restored to their preeminence... a time where the struggle and violence necessary to survive was overcome, and replaced by the violent pursuit of power in it's stead.

If war never changes, perhaps it is because it is the inevitable result of so-called "civilization".

Octavian Centuriate

The originally founded as "Caesar's Legions" in 2247 the legions rapidly rose to power through brutal assimilation of the many tribal peoples of the central and southern regions of the United States, west of Nevada. With the death of Caesar circa 2281-2285 the Legion fell under the leadership of Legate Lanius and focused on expanding their conquests east of Colorado. This campaign met with disaster when Legate Lanius died on the onset and led to a vacuum of power that ultimately fractured the legions into many individual tribes and "cohorts".

One portion of the legion had been sent far to the east and had been busy conquering numerous fortified settlements in parts of Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Upon learning of the Legates death, so quickly following Caesar's, and the dissolution of order amongst the Legions, this eastern vanguard managed to rally around a new leader, calling himself "Octavian". Under Octavian's leadership the legionaries and their newly conquered territory was reorganized into the "Centuriate", compromising some traditional legion practices with local culture to achieve a lasting integration.

Today, the Centuriate is a militaristic oligarchy where soldiers elect their dictator (upon his death) as the Imperator. Whilst the other remnants of the legions have generally devolved into tribes of raiders, the Centuriate has managed to organize a thriving (if draconian) society.
