Reviewing a board game
My favorite mechanics of the game was the diverse amount of characters, who all had unique powers and benefits you would pick one of these along with a special power to go with it however the majority of the powers from races were very similar for example humans gained 1 bonus coin from occupying a farmland for a turn similarly wizards gain a bonus coin for occupying's a magic land at the end of their turn the special powers also act similar as hill grants a bonus coin for occupying's s hill biome at the end of a turn.
My Least favorite thing about this game is the amount of information that you have to digest in order to play the game however these mechanics all seem fun once you've learned them but we were only given half an hour to learn it because of this I rate the board game:
3/5
Small world
fantasy, fighting and territory building
2-5 players
age rating 8
released in March 2009
Monopoly is a game with the main mechanic of rolling a dice to move and buying properties, the objective of the game is to be the only one left not bankrupt.
You start the game on go with 2-8 players you roll 2 dice add the results together then move that many spaces once you land on your spot if its a property then you have the choice to auction or buy a property when you auction it everybody in the game including yourself bids and the highest gets it, or if you buy it its full price and no one else gets a choice; if someone lands on this property then they have to pay you money. you repeatedly do this once someone has all the properties of a set then you can buy houses to put on them this increases the prices.
There are some few special squares on the board like go to jail square where you get sent to a jail for 3 turns unless you roll a double on one of those turns there are community chests and chance card spots if you land on these you pull out a respecting card and that can be anything from bonus money to go to jail, once only one person has money left they are the winner, although you can gain money from mortgaging your properties you wont gain money from them while they are mortgaged, you can also gain money from trading with other players, you can give them money for properties but its up to them whether to agree, refuse or make a new offer.
a mechanic i like about monopoly is the trading it makes the game less about pure luck and more about negotiations, however a mechanic in monopoly i dislike how its mostly a luck based game
checkers is a very simple game with the only goal being to get rid of the other teams pieces can only move forward in 1 diagonal unless they reach the other end and then they can move backwards as well as forwards in 1 diagonal you can kill the enemy pieces by jumping over them in a diagonal so they need an empty space the opposite side of them than you, if you can attack a piece then you have to once you hopped over the piece its dead and you take it off the board, after that you get another turn only if you can take another piece with the same piece you just used.
a mechanic I like about checkers is the double move if you can it makes the game feel satisfying if you get a double, however a mechanic I dislike about checkers would be the feeling of a lack of control during the moving of pieces.
in the game of life everyone starts at one place spins a wheel and moves places corresponding to what number you rolled, eventually you land on special squares like job, payday, married and have a child, these are all worth points at the end of the game the person with the most points wins.
When you land on a job square/school/university depending on what you chose you will get a chance for a better job however these all come with risks for example pay bank 100K likewise there are good squares that are green like get paid 300K, this continues until you reach the end of the board where retirement is this will take everything you've got in your characters life and add the score together the game may continue after this for a while because others may need to catch up, once every one has finished the game all the points are added up and the person with the most points wins. its a very calm game that isn't very competitive with little to no interaction with each other unlike monopoly.
during the game you'll gain a job, marriage, children and a house if you chose to go down those specific paths and get a little lucky landing on the squares for them.
A mechanic I like about the game of life would be the little interaction with each other, however a mechanic I dislike about The game of life would be the length of the map with little variety in activity's to do it is mostly just spin a wheel move maybe get paid and continue even when you do land on a different square its all mostly the same in terms of the objective of reaching the end with the most stuff
