I am a very passionate and hard-working student. My love for learning about new subjects and wanting to grow as a student and professional drives my will to be the best I can possibly be in my major: Forensic Biology. As a student, I am accountable, organized, consistent, creative, and responsible which helps me succeed and excel in a large variety of academic experiences. I seek out opportunities that allow me to showcase my strategic, problem-solving, and open mindset that drives my professional career preparation. I am a leader because I am very detail orientated and reliable especially when it comes to projects. I also am able to be my best in a team environment or individually which makes me a very well-rounded and adaptable individual.
This is a short paragraph to describe who I am now. It holds the skills that I have gained years prior and the kind of student I am today.
Reflection:
This statement is a description of who I am. It took me a while to write and edit just because it really is hard to write about yourself. As an honors college student, you get distracted from "who you are" and you focus more on "who you want to become". So, sitting down and reflecting on myself and actually thinking about what I am good at and who I am, was refreshing. This is a very important thing to do because being able to describe yourself and knowing who you are is a necessary part of applying to places and knowing what you want.
I want to become a strong and self-aware Honors College student. I want to reach above and beyond every expectation given to me by staying determined and hard-working. I plan to stay as involved as possible while staying ahead of my schooling and (then later in the future) my career. I want to better my communication and interpersonal skills so I can be given the opportunity to grow my network and make new, useful connections. I plan to take every opportunity and use it to my full advantage by using the experiences to teach me how to be a more well-rounded professional. I want to use my skills, new and old, to allow me to compete in very competitive internships and future job opportunities. I also plan to use these skills to make me a strong contender for graduate school so I can continue to learn Forensic Biology and get my Master’s.
I want to become a successful and confident Lab Professional in my major: Forensic Biology. I want to prove that I am the best candidate for the positions that are given to me. I want to excel in every task that I am given and solve every problem that I am faced with. I plan to stay passionate and consistent throughout my career path and never stray from my end goals. Reaching this will be difficult but that doesn't intimidate me at all from what I want. I plan to use the challenges and experiences to better myself and improve my skill sets. I will use this to build up the transferable skills that I already have and build on the new ones that I will gain from these opportunities.
This is a statement to describe who I want to become as a student and person. It holds goals and transferable skills that I would like to gain and accomplish.
Reflection:
This statement explains who I want to become in the future (college and beyond). To write this, was very easy. I have known for a long time what I would want to do in the future. I also had a strong idea of who I would want to become and strive to be as a student. I like knowing what is ahead of me and what I need to accomplish. This statement helped put that into perspective and put all of my thoughts in one place.
This is a layout of my path through college. It shows what I have to accomplish each year to graduate and move on from college.
Reflection:
Journey maps are supposed to help you map out your goals and how to get there. My map looks more like a gameboard/ trail. Even though it might just look like an art project, it holds a lot of valuable information. I went through each year in college and wrote down my goals for each said year. This also might not be as accurate as we could hope because of different opportunities that might arise. However, this map is very important and gives the general idea of what I want to accomplish throughout college with my end goal being Graduate School.
This is a website made to help honors college students with common struggles. It holds the causes, personal experiences, and ways to fix the problem.
Reflection:
This project was done with a group of fellow classmates in my Hon-H200 class. Here we were learning about different biases and how they affect us as Honors College students. Our group had to pick a common struggle among Honors Students and we chose the Lack of Motivation. We work together to make a website full of valuable information on the issue and how to help fix it. Each person described their own struggles on this topic and it was refreshing to learn that I am not alone. I was able to describe my personal struggles with motivation and learn more about myself. As Honors students, we tend to focus only on school and often stress ourselves out. So, this was a very valuable project that we did and holds a lot of valuable information about self-care which is very useful as an Honors Student.
