FreshWater Catalogue Project Resources & Results

For our FWC volunteers and our wider interest group. Sharing our data, images, and videos, our "citizen science" watershed notes, and how these notes, a (surface-water oriented) freshwater catalogue for SSI, may help inform “big picture” water quantity models, and provide baseline data for other important work.

These Resource pages will include historical freshwater perspectives and anecdotes (as we capture these).

Our Citizen Science

Watershed Notes

Containing some of the developing FWC watershed "working models", our "Watershed Notes" are based on the FWC field data collected. In addition to the notes, have a look at our recent FWC reports to gain more detailed insights into what we have been up to, or visit our SSI Watershed Stewardship Facebook Facebook Page for further information and the developing stories.

Where we have enough year-round data, and we are able to pin down what is “groundwater", our FWC data helps understand the ranges in the various (surface/rainwater and groundwater) flow component(s) within our discrete watersheds creeks, and (importantly) leaving the island(!) - valuable information for helping inform areal water budget models and our understanding of watershed area groundwater recharge potential.

Our FWC data also gives insights into anthropogenic influences in our creeks/watersheds, and can be used in baseline (water quality and quantity) determinations for watershed restoration projects (eg at Xwaaqw’um), and in climate change monitoring. More on these in a future background reading article.

Our Data

Field data files

The FreshWater Catalogue project is a public domain citizen (or better) community science project. Our datasets, with due WPS, FWC acknowledgement, are available for educational and scientific use, Cf. the SSI FWC webmap for an overview of the data avilable (and where).

Check out the links to the FWC data, being involved as a volunteer, and/or the field equipment we use.

FWC Images & Videos

Field and homeoffice images , videos and watershed maps from across the island's watersheds are accessible here.

Historical Perspectives

Under development... as a part of our "watershed notes" series, building on notes from conversations in the field and in the media, covering the history of our various island watersheds. Volunteers are needed for this one!
