FWC Oakton Hosts

(Last Update 2023/11/02)

How to find an Oakton (and other FWC equipment) Host...

Updates on our Oaktons and Current Hosts

WIth the support of FWC grants from the SSI Foundation, and from several kind donations to our island freshwater stewardship project, we have multiple Oakton field chemistry probes now deployed and being shared.

Our Oaktons are used in the SSIFWC project to gather field data on local variations in watershed (and aquifer) freshwater chemistry. There are indications that this data gives insights into the discrete freshwater components: distinguishing surface water (from precipitation) vs groundwater (baseflow) in our creeks, providing important information that may distinguish groundwater discharge proportions, possible aquifer source(s), and locally providing insights into anthropogenic influences on our water courses.

Thanks to our Oakton Hosts these field devices are available, by arrangement, for SSIFWC field use across the island. If you wish to borrow one one of these devices for field measurements (or to gather some valuable SSIFWC data on your well), please contact one of the hosts to make arrangements (cf our Volunteer Bulletins for the link to our Oakton hosts).
Note - Established Covid protocols for "pick-up” and "drop-off" and equipment handling should be followed.

If you are interested in being an Oakton host, here is what we are looking for.

Note - please email the SSIFWC Project Lead if you are interested in hosting an SSIFWC Oakton for your area of the island.
