Babak was a mage model Fortu which had previously worked for Gorram.  Upon the collapse of his Empire and the inclusion of the Fire Mountain Fortu in the general Fortu race he grudgingly has integrated into the general Fortu race.  From the perspective of adopting the new framework, Babak is evolving quickly and has adopted many aspects of free will, but he exercises this will frequently to disagree with Sigmund or others of the Fortu leadership.  Sigmund has respected this disagreement and for his part he has never openly betrayed the Fortu race or the Prime in other Fortu's eyes, but he prefers to work alone and has never come to the Club.  There is not a lot of trust between many of the other Fortu and Babak.  Tareka is sometimes called on as a go between when required, since he will always talk to her.
