The initiation of new members was held at Peggy H.'s home. Kathy H. called the meeting to order, welcomed all members and initiates, and thanked Peggy H. for hosting. Barbara introduced our guest, Lottie R, AΔK Gulf Region President and member of the Epsilon chapter. The following were initiated into the Alpha Sigma chapter: Andrea G. (sponsor Claudette McCann); Sherri J. (sponsor Asia Ross); Kristin L. (sponsor Karen L. with Camille P. substituting in Karen’s absence); Mary K. M. (sponsor Julie M.). Following the ceremony, new members were welcomed with a round of applause. Lottie R. passed out information sheets on AΔK, small gifts to the new members, and shared a few ways on how the AΔK website can be a wealth of information. Pictures were taken, and members stood and sang The Lamp of AΔK.

Kathy L. shared interesting facts about this month’s altruistic project, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, from its humble beginnings in a couple’s garage to a program with chapters nationwide and our local chapter’s impact on our community. Julie M. asked members to volunteer to mentor the new members to help them become fully active members of Alpha Sigma. Cheryl announced that all the girls received $100 gift cards and explained to our new members that all the chapters in Florida support the AΔK Scholarship House and that they send gift cards for the girls to offset the cost of textbooks and study materials. She shared that the house will have a new kitchen this summer, and Debby S. spent the day taking pictures of each girl for the tree mural in the dining room of the scholarship house. Susan H. described Girls’ Night Out for the new members and the type of activities that are planned. She encouraged members to make suggestions for activities they are interested in.  Finally, for fraternity education, Peggy H. passed out a crossword puzzle with clues about AΔK. Members worked in pairs to complete the activity, with several having perfect scores.
