The February meeting was held at Peggy's home. Second Harvest presented our program, and February's altruistic project was Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Barbara Donaldson introduced our guest speaker, Jasmine Vickers, Corporate Giving Manager for Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Jasmine shared that Second Harvest can purchase food at a cheaper price, as well as donations from farmers. One dollar provides four meals. Second Harvest also provides food for students at the sponsored schools, for after-school care in centers such as Palmer Monroe and Dade Street Dade Center, and approximately 118 other locations. Second Harvest has a farm to grow food (from plant to table) and maintains bee colonies for the fruits and vegetables. They educate the youth through many projects. Second Harvest serves 16 counties. After our program, an initiation ceremony was held. The new initiates were Susan Hilton, sponsored by Camille Park; Nicole Lott, sponsored by Claudette McCann; and Althea Valle, sponsored by Barbara Donaldson.
