A holiday game night was held in the home of Pat A. January’s altruistic project was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an AΔK international project. Susan H. brought her daughter, Elena, a consultant for a communication firm with St. Jude as a client. She described how she supports fundraising efforts. St. Jude’s relies on many small donations rather than large donations. Elena explained that the families of children treated at St. Jude’s do not incur any financial burdens, and most of the money raised goes toward research. Since 1962, when St. Jude’s first opened, the survival rate for childhood cancer has gone from 20% to 80% in the US, thanks to research
Kathy L. thanked the elves who shopped for the foster children. She also delivered linens to the volunteers for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, who were very excited to receive such an abundance of linens. Cheryl took the leftover snacks from our November meeting to the scholarship house. This month’s project is The Longest Day, an international altruistic project supporting the fight against Alzheimer’s. Camille explained that although the Longest Day is observed on June 21st, members are encouraged to light a luminary on Dec. 21st, the shortest day of the year, symbolizing our efforts to “light the way.”
Karen L. introduced Mary, a guest and prospective member. Andrea G. another guest and prospective member who visited our September meeting, was reintroduced by her sponsor, Claudette.
