The first of our 80s songs was our band's original song, 'sliding doors'. This song's style was very interesting and definitely set us apart from the other two groups who did not perform originals. One of the pros of writing an original as a band is that we were able to write all the parts and structure it to include all of the instruments that we use, including the more 'unusual' ones such as the violin. This allowed for much simpler implication of such instruments into our performance.
'Billie Jean' by Michael Jackson was our second song of our 80s project. I once again took the lead vocals on this song and we cut out violin for it again. This song is a classic 80s hit which many people know quite well, which makes it a great choice of song to perform to an audience. Throughout, we decided to add some of Jackson's well-known sound effects and, to finish, one of his iconic dance moves to add to the performance.
Our last song was the iconic 'livin' on a prayer' by Bon Jovi. In this song, I found a way to split my vocals and my violin in one song which, in turn, challenged us to think about how we should position ourselves on the stage when we play our setlist for maximum efficiency. This song was also challenging in the sense of the vibe of the song. It has very high energy throughout the entirety of its duration, but I think we rose to the challenge and managed to find a way to maintain a consistent energy throughout the performance.
