The 60s, for us, was definitely one of our most organised and swift decades. At the beginning of the project, we were very quick to collectively decide on songs we liked and thought catered well to the mix of instruments and styles within our band. Teenage kicks was our choice of creative cover for this decade and I think it worked quite nicely with bringing out the acoustic side of our band (acoustic guitar and violin). We eventually implemented a violin solo into the middle of the song and changed the chord structure of the song for this part.
Brown-eyed girl was by far our strongest 60s song from our setlist. Even though we were still confused about what was happening about the lead vocals/vocalist of our band, and the lack of drummers on our course, we managed to string together a strong and confident performance in the end.
The last of our song choices was 'you really got me' by The Kinks. This was definitely our most unique song choice and it was very interesting trying to implement a violin part. I personally struggled a little bit trying to get this to work as I found it challenging to successfully harmonise with the melody without it sounding too dissonant. I ended up alternating between either joining in on the melody in unison or playing the main riff/baseline of the song throughout its duration.
