Girls Empowerment Network ignites the power in girls by teaching them the skills to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable. This mission comes to life in our programs through a curriculum designed to increase each girl's self-efficacy (her belief in her ability to succeed). We serve girls in 3-12 grades in Central Texas, Houston, and Dallas.
The University of Houston-Downtown Work-Study Internship Direct Service position will facilitate and co-facilitate programs within Girls Empowerment Network. They will work with a diverse group of girls in the Houston area and work in a team-oriented environment. Work-Study interns can expect to gain valuable skills in group facilitation, volunteer management, internal systems associated with non-profit management, and more!
Facilitate and co-facilitate Girls Empowerment Network’ Radiant G Curriculum in schools, camps, and conferences.
Facilitate or co-facilitate up to 4 weekly self-efficacy building groups in schools, Radiant G Circles, each semester.
Oversee logistical details of Radiant G Circles, such as managing communication and building a positive relationship with school contacts, recruiting participants for the group, managing volunteers, and communicating with parents/caregivers as needed.
Conduct pre- and post-evaluations to measure the program’s efficacy and provide referrals to participants when appropriate.
Attend all required agency meetings, including program department, staff, and individual supervision.
Attend community events as a representative of Girls Empowerment Network
Applicants must be professional, creative, team-oriented, self-starters who have an eye for detail and a positive attitude.
Applicants must have obtained or are actively pursuing a degree in counseling, social work, or a related field.
Must be committed to the goals/mission of Girls Empowerment Network and social justice.
Must have reliable transportation to partner schools in the Houston region.
Must be available to facilitate programs during the school day.
