At only 17 years old, Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by George Zimmerman while walking home from the convenience store in Sanford, Florida. He had bought a bag of skittles and a bottle of juice. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, claimed to have shot the unarmed teen out of self defense, moments after calling the police to report that Martin looked suspicious. After a high profile trial with charges of second degree murder against him, he was ultimately found not guilty. There is no justice in our system if we allow a person who kills an innocent 17 year old to be free. Trayvon should not have lost his life that day, but because he was black, he was looked at as threatening and suspicious. Say his name, know his story, keep fighting for change.
