In Baytown, Texas on May 13th, 2019, 44 year old Pamela Turner was killed by police officer Juan Delacruz while walking at her apartment complex. Delacruz had approached her to arrest her on open warrants, and in the midst of the confrontation the officer tased her. Then, when Turner got the taser away from him, he shot Pamela 5 times. Originally, Delacruz had stated that she fired the taser at him, but new developments detail that this would’ve been impossible since the taser had to be manually reloaded. The encounter was captured on video by a bystander, and when it went viral, nationwide outcry followed. According to her family, Pamela was a kind and loving person, and was never violent or mean. She would quite regularly help around her community, and before her death was said to be picking up trash around her neighborhood as she often did. She was a friend, a daughter, a sister, a mother, and a grandmother.
As of June, 2020, no progress has been made in the case, and Delacruz has not been charged in Turners death.
