October 12, 2019. 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson was shot in her own home by Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean, after receiving a welfare call from a concerned neighbor, noting that the front door to her house was open. Upon arrival, the dispatch team snuck quietly around the house, making no attempt to identify themselves before firing at Jefferson through a window. Seconds before, Atatiana, concerned about the noises from outside and her safety, looked through the window weidling a lawfully owned firearm (not visible through the window). Before the officers' arrival, Atatiana had been playing video games on the couch with her 8-year-old nephew.
